On this Labor Day, I remember one of the core tenants that my father taught me:
"Any work is honorable work."
To celebrate work, especially work that I call “up against reality,” I link to one of my favorite songs about labor, Working Man's PhD by Aaron Tippin. https://youtu.be/2t7ECnE43QE?si=9pMFVrlcbXyr-vm8

While my father was a school teacher, he did handyman work during the summers, taking me with him starting when I was 7. He later turned fulltime handyman after he quit school teaching because they would not let him exercise corporal punishment, anymore.
He thought unions had become institutions that helped men NOT do an honest day's work. That, and the fact that the unions funded Dems put a negative cast on his and my view of unions.
I gave a speech in Toastmasters once, called "War Stories," stating that instead of serving in the military as so many young men have done, I worked in my youth in big industrial workplaces like gas plants, offshore platforms, and a steel mill, telling stories from my experiences.
I have worked with OCAW and United Steelworkers unions in a gas plant and one summer on a blast furnace. I gave a speech in Toastmasters once, called "War Stories," stating that instead of serving in the military as so many young men have done in our history, I worked in big industrial workplaces like gas plants, offshore platforms, and a steel mill, telling stories from my experiences.
(BTW, one of the many differences between my Texas House opponent and me is that I have had a career in business, whereas his career has been politics.)
As I got older and studied history, I understood that unions have been important in stopping corporate abuses, but I still have a watchful eye for abuses by unions.
One of the wonderful things about MAGA is that I think those who do the work of making our society run, union and independent alike, have realized that properly oriented markets reward ALL people who work, both blue and white collar.
MAGA is an embodiment of my father’s motto. The left and the Democrats have become a haven for those who don’t want to -- as Aaron Tippin says “pull their weight.”
MAGA, the GOP, my campaign, and now Labor Day is for those who do an honest day’s work.
